We are so excited to be the first domain registrar to offer the full suite of Google Apps for Business!
It only seems natural to start out with Gmail – the most popular web-based email provider in the world! People love it for the plentiful storage, efficient spam filter and easy-to-use layout, but Gmail offers so much more. There are many handy hidden treasures just waiting to be uncovered!
Here are some of our favourite Gmail tips and tricks:
Google uses Gmail Labs to experiment with special features and add-ons. Some will graduate to become part of Gmail, some will remain in Labs and some will be shelved. To take advantage of these extra goodies, you just need to add Gmail Labs.
Log in to your Gmail account and click Settings on the upper right corner. Here, you will find the Labs tab. Check out the different features available and select Enable for the ones you’d like to try.
Turning on your keyboard shortcuts is an ultimate timesaving tool! Gmail has almost 50 shortcuts to help you quickly search, manage and navigate through your inbox.
Head on over to your Gmail Settings > General > and Enable Keyboard Shortcuts.
Not feeling Google’s preset shortcuts? You can create your own custom keyboard shortcuts using an available Lab called Custom Keyboard Shortcuts!
No need to use the generic Google background! You can have fun with your Gmail by personalizing your inbox.
Check out Settings > Themes to see the colourful themes Google has to offer or customize your own.
You can train Gmail to automatically sort your emails as they arrive, based on the addresses they are being sent from, words in the subject line or other criteria. Use filters to make sure certain emails are always labeled important, get categorized in a certain folder, or even go straight to the Trash.
First, select the email you’d like to filter. You can select multiple messages that you’d like to assign the same filtering criteria, which is handy for multiple senders from the same group (such as coworkers). Once you’ve selected your message, click More Actions > Filter Messages Like These.
In the pop-up that appears, you will see that Gmail can filter by From, To, or Subject. Then, you can decide what you’d like Gmail to do with these messages. You can automatically archive, star, label, forward, delete or categorize them!
Colour coding is a quick and easy way to organize your messages at a glance. You can choose to label your Gmail messages with different coloured stars and a range of other icons. This is helpful when you’d like to highlight several messages as important, but at different levels of urgency.
Let your star power shine by going to Settings > General and dragging different coloured stars into use.
Did you forget to include an attachment? Or, did you send an email to the entire office that you meant to send to your mom? Don’t worry!
Enabling the Undo Send add-on from Gmail Labs will allow you to retract your message for up to 30 seconds after sending. Each time you send an email, Gmail will give you the option to click Undo.
These are just a few of our favourite Gmail tricks. What lesser-known Gmail tools do you love to use?
