The Internet sure has changed a lot since Hover sold its very first domain name in 2008. We’ve seen social networks rise and fall, devices get more and more powerful, and the ways way use the Internet become increasingly more complex and sophisticated. As for domain names, hundreds of new top-level domains like .design and, of course, .pizza have forever changed how we think about domains.
As though the world of domain names couldn’t get any more exciting, we managed to find a way: data. Lots and lots of beautiful, endless data. But rather than share our 35,000 row spreadsheet, we thought we’d showcase it in a more simple & straightforward way. That’s why we’ve teamed up with our friends at Venngage to present our infographic that gets to the bottom of how people use their Hover domains.
Some of our key findings include:
- The average domain length is 16.3 characters (Click to Tweet)
- It takes an average of 1.8 days from initially searching for a domain before purchasing one. (Click to Tweet)
- 67% of domains are set up with a website (Click to Tweet)
- .xyz is Hover’s top-selling new top-level domain (Click to Tweet)
