Last month we issued a challenge for our friends at Radiotopia: If their Kickstarter campaign reached 20,000 backers then we would throw in an extra $25,000. Well, wouldn’t you know it – they managed to reach their stretch goal yesterday! We’re thrilled, ecstatic, proud & maybe just a wee bit nervous that we actually have to pay up now.
This campaign definitely wasn’t smooth sailing the whole way through. Just last week it only had around half of the backers it needed and we were thinking of what we would do if the 20k goal wasn’t reached. Luckily, Radiotopia’s devoted listeners made sure it didn’t get to that point.
We’re incredibly honoured to have done our part to help support Radiotopia’s dream of a sustainable listener-supported public radio network. Listening to any one of their shows, it’s easy to hear the time & effort that’s put into ensuring that each and every episode is of the absolute best quality.
So far the campaign has raised more than double its $250,000 goal, which is absolutely astounding. If you made a pledge (or are still thinking of doings so) then don’t worry; your money is in good hands. Roman Mars & the rest of the Radiotopia team won’t be purchasing a private yacht anytime soon. Every cent of the funds raised will go right back into the network, ensuring that employees are adequately compensated in order to create a sustainable (and growing) network of great public radio.
Yesterday it was so exciting to watch the Kickstarter page and see Radiotopia reach 20,000 backers. They are a great example of how great things can happen for those who work hard to do something that they believe in. The 20,000+ backers also show that there are a lot of people out there willing to support the makers out there who provide them with something that enriches their lives. We can’t think of a better group to help support. Well done, and we’ll be listening!
